Singapore Embassy hosted an exclusive luncheon for Goodwins team .
Singapore has emerged as one of the world’s leading centres for international commercial arbitration, and is quickly becoming an alternative to traditional centres like London, Paris and Stockholm. Its advantageous geographic location, world-class infrastructure, efficiency and ease of communications have made it an ideal hub for not just Asia, but the rest of the world as well.
With Singapore emerging as an alternate to centres like London, Paris and Stockholm to commercial arbitration, the session highlighted the unique advantages that Singapore offers. With its strong reputation for integrity and competence, Singapore is viewed as a neutral venue for international commercial arbitration. As the UAE similarly continues to develop itself as a commercial and financial hub for the MENA region, there are undoubtedly experiences that can be shared between our two countries. In that regard, the luncheon was designed to serve as an excellent opportunity to the relevant officials in the legal department to gain a better sense of Singapore as an arbitration hub and how this might apply to UAE businesses and the Emirati legal landscape.
The event culminated in an exclusive roundtable luncheon that was hosted at the Singapore Embassy on 12 April 2018 (Thursday) at 1.00 pm. The theme of the roundtable was “The development of Singapore as an international arbitration hub and potential advantages for the UAE”.
Dr. Toh See Kiat the Global Chairman of Goodwins Law Corporation was the Guest Speaker for the event. Dr. Toh was joined by Mr. P.V.Sheheen, Managing Partner of Goodwins Law Corporation (UAE), who clarified queries on Alternate Dispute Resolution from a UAE perspective.
